The button sits next to the EU VAT number in the new order form, in the customer details on the order card and in the new customer window. Result: active, inactive or VIES unavailable.
Date and consultation number
Every check has a date and, once you enter your own EU VAT number, a VIES consultation number too: proof that the buyer was verified.
0% invoice only after the check
When a document for an EU company outside Poland would carry a 0% rate, the system asks VIES first. This covers invoices from wFirma, inFakt, Fakturownia, iFirma and Firmao.
Inactive number: your call
By default the invoice waits for you, with the reason. You can instead choose to issue such invoices with VAT, as for a consumer.
A VIES outage is not a result
When VIES does not answer, the check is retried for over ten minutes and then the invoice waits. No answer never counts as an active or an inactive number.
Evidence on the order
The check history (country, number, date and consultation number) is shown on the order card next to the invoice. We do not store the company name or address VIES returns.
How to turn on VIES checks?
Add the VIES integration
In Integrations, under Company verification, add VIES. You need no account and no key: it is a public service of the European Commission.
Enter your EU VAT number
With the country prefix. It lets VIES issue a consultation number, and Test connection checks that your own number is active.
Choose the rule for inactive numbers
Hold the invoice for your decision, or issue it with VAT, as for a consumer.
Sell to EU companies
0% invoices for companies in other EU countries go through VIES automatically. Held ones appear on the order card with the reason and a Retry button.
